Serving Des Moines and the Surrounding Area

Johnston Traditional

This kitchen went through a total overhaul in both layout and style. We began by opening up the kitchen to the adjacent dining room to create a large open space. We removed a large bulkhead and light canopy in the middle of the original kitchen. From there, we were able to create a new layout, turning and enlarging the island and adding cabinets next to the patio slider. We added a gas cooktop and microwave in the island and double wall ovens and the refrigerator next to the island. In the former dining room, we added a wall of pantry cabinets as well as a small desk area. We added narrow lower built-ins below the existing dining room. While there is still a formal dining room in the home, there would be plenty of room to add a table in this area if it were ever needed.

The quartz countertops have a rugged concrete look and work beautifully with the custom quartersawn red oak cabinets and the stainless cabinet hardware and apron-front sink. The 3×8″ beige tile are accented by colored tiles the homeowner selected, all of which works well with the modern Mission Style of this space. This renovation was completed with new white oak floors stained on site to match the existing trim. Are you from Johnston, IA? If so then, check out this bathroom remodel.
